We've put together a handy guide on how to make your own face coverings or masks.
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends all face masks should be three layers, ideally with a cotton inner layer, a fabric blend inner layer and a water resistant outer layer.
But, any face material or face mask is better than none.
In a bind, scarves can also be used as temporary face coverings.
To make your own face mask you will need three 25cm pieces of fabric, elastic or string for ear loops, a needle and thread or sewing machine.

How should my mask fit?
A cloth mask should fit securely across the face and cover your nose and mouth. It should have no vents or holes.
Can I reuse my mask?
If you have a cloth mask, you can reuse it but should wash it between each use. Disposable masks should only be worn once and should be thrown out carefully so it does not contaminate anyone. If your single-use mask gets dirty or wet, replace it with a new one.
Do children have to wear face masks?
Children under 12 years of age do not have to wear masks.
What are the medical exemptions for not wearing a face mask?
Some people physically or mentally are unable to use face masks. Professionals who need to clearly enunciate or have their mouth visible, like teachers or newsreaders, are also exempt as are people who are hard or hearing or communicating with someone who is deaf or hard of hearing. The Department of Health and Human Services say residents exempt from wearing a mask do not need a medical certificate, but said "if stopped by police they will ask you to confirm the lawful reason you are not wearing a mask."
Do I have to wear a mask if I go out for dinner?
Residents don't have to wear a mask while eating or driving in their car alone, but every resident is required to carry a mask with them when they leave home.
