Wallabies coach Dave Rennie makes major changes for Bledisloe Cup game two

Rennie has adopted a fearless approach in a bid to shore up problems at the lineout for the clash in Auckland - where the Wallabies haven't won since 1986 - on Sunday.

Hooker Folau Fainga'a is a casualty of a struggling lineout, as he and Samu drop out of the 23-man squad after starting in game one, while bench pairing Rob Valetini and Noah Lolesio have also been left out.

Brandon Paenga-Amosa will start at hooker, while the return of blindside flanker Ned Hanigan sees Harry Wilson shift into the No. 8 jersey. Queensland Reds duo Liam Wright and Jordan Petaia have joined the bench.

Hanigan and Paenga-Amosa have not played Test rugby for two years and the task before them is bringing down the All Blacks at a venue where they boast an incredible 43-game unbeaten run.

Samu perhaps would have liked to have made a bigger impact in the series opener, a near 90-minute epic, with Rennie now calling on the star Brumby to make changes in the hope he can force his way back into the side for the Tri-Nations.

"He's been given a clear message around areas we wanted to see shifts," Rennie said, though he wouldn't go in-depth about those shifts.

"It's constant with some of the other messages we've given earlier in the year and he has made good shifts. We didn't see that on the weekend. That's his focus, he'll get another crack at some stage I'd imagine, and he'll need to nail it.

"There's a lot of competition for places, there's not much between some of the players. What we say to the boys is 'you need to nail it'.

"While the result was reasonably good last week, we're judging everything on performance. That's not just from a team performance, it's individually.

"You leave the door open for other guys to come in and give it a nudge."

Brumbies scrumhalf Nic White will look to back up what was arguably his finest performance in Wallabies colours during game one's stalemate when he lines up at No. 9.

Tom Banks has retained his place at fullback while James Slipper will start in the front-row, with Allan Alaalatoa and James Slipper again named as the finishers.

Rennie is tipping Hanigan to play a major role in his return at the lineout, which will be orchestrated by Paenga-Amosa following Fainga'a's shaky outing in game one.

"The lineout didn't function as well last week, Folau is a casualty of that," Rennie said.

"He's certainly a very strong scrummager as well, Brandon. We think he's the right man for the job this weekend. He's done a lot of work on his throwing over the last period."

All Blacks coach Ian Foster has dropped outside centre Rieko Ioane, with Anton Lienert-Brown set to fill the No. 13 jersey.

Beauden Barrett returns at fullback to push Damian McKenzie to the bench, while Caleb Clarke joins him in New Zealand's back three for the injured George Bridge.

Tupou Vaa'i has earned a maiden start with Sam Whitelock ruled out following a concussion, while Dane Coles shifts into the starting XV. Codie Taylor and prop Alex Hodgman are on the bench.

Paenga-Amosa is confident the Australian lineout will find its rhythm this week as the Wallabies look to overcome an Eden Park curse which has haunted their predecessors.

"Definitely, there's that hype around, about how it's a fortress," 24-year-old Paenga-Amosa said.

"The mindset we're heading in with is it's just a field. It's just another place we're going to play. To get a win there would be nice, that's the goal this week."

As Rennie puts it, "at some stage the All Blacks are going to lose a game at Eden Park. Why not this Sunday?"
