Canberra Raiders co-captain Jarrod Croker's Intuition has William Pike storming home in MSS Security Sprint

But given there's no crowds at Flemington this year due to the coronavirus, the Canberra Raiders co-captain's not sure what he'll do when Intuition jumps in the listed MSS Security Sprint (1200 metres) on Tuesday.

Maybe a barbecue at trainer Kurt Goldman's place in Goulburn. Even that depends on how his shoulder feels after he had surgery last week.

"I'm not sure. I haven't got anything organised. I spoke to Dad earlier and he said Mum was off and they were keen to do something," Croker said.

"The trainer has a little property just outside of Goulburn. He mentioned having a barbecue and couple of beers out there.

"That could be an option. I could also be sitting on the lounge doing nothing - the shoulder's still a little bit tender so I haven't moved far.

"We'll work something out. But wherever I'll be I'll probably have a cold one in my hand and cheering him on."

Regardless of the wheres and the hows, one thing Croker is sure of - they've got the right man on board.

Star Perth jockey William Pike has the ride and Croker was predicting Intuition's odds would shorten as Cup day gets longer given the hoop's record of kicking winners home late in the day.

Intuition goes into the sprint off the back of a 10^th in the $1.3 million Kosciuszko (1200m) at Randwick two weeks ago.

He finished seventh in this race last year and has black type to his name from winning the listed Hawkesbury Rush (1100m) in 2019.

Given it's a listed race, Croker won't be getting his hopes up too much - just like he didn't ahead of the Koscisuzko, where Intuition didn't recover from a check from the favourite and eventual winner It's Me.

It was mixed feelings for Croker - the excitement of having a runner on the day of the race that stops a nation, but the disappointment of having to watch it from afar.

"It's exciting. Cup Day down the straight at Flemington. I was pretty thrilled to be able to get a run in the Kosciuszko," he said.

"It didn't go to plan, but I think the best horse won that race by the looks of it.

"But having a runner down at Flemington - it's obviously disappointing we can't get down there.

"We normally go to Derby weekend too. It would've been good to go to the Derby and stay down for the week and do the Cup.

"I've never done Melbourne Cup so it would've been nice to stay down and watch hopefully Pikey salute in the last.

"I think all of Australia will be on him just because Willy Pike's on him. It's very exciting mate.

"He's going well. He's been down with Mick Price for about a week now, doing the work down there and by all reports he's going really well.

"I might have to get on the odds early because everyone seems to back Pikey in the last wherever he is."

Pike will be wearing blue silks a white horseshoe, and white chequered sleeves.

But the success of wearing the Raiders' lime green for the Kosciuszko means a permanent change is on the horizon.

Croker's charge helped raise $2500 for the Ricky Stuart Foundation and Goldman liked the colours so much they're looking to make it the horse's colours.

"We raised $2500 for the silks on Intuition. We've sold them and donated that to the Ricky Stuart Foundation," Croker said.

"Because the colours looked really good in the race, [Kurt] wants to get them made up just for the horse going forward.

"We won't be able to wear them [Tuesday], it's too short, but he wants to be able to do that going forward.

"It'll obviously be without the Foundation colours because it was a charity thing. Just the Raiders jersey I think he's pretty keen to get on going forward.

"Hopefully we can get that over the line. He wants a white cap this time [for] the white head gear."
