Dean Lonergan and Jeff Fenech stoked with Brock Jarvis' brutal win over Mark Schleibs in Canberra

For five rounds the D&L Events chief, watching from New Zealand, sees a 23-year-old who may well be the most devastating body puncher in the country put on a clinic to move to 18-0.

Jarvis claimed the IBF Pan Pacific and WBO Global featherweight titles with a knockout victory over Mark Schleibs (12-1) at Canberra's Coorong Pavilion on Friday night.

The highlight reel will be one worth watching, Lonergan says, because this is Jarvis at his best. The Jeff Fenech-trained rising star is absolutely brutal to the body of an outclassed opponent.

Soon after Jarvis' hand is raised following a fight card broadcast live on Fox Sports, Lonergan's mind begins to wander to what comes next for one of the most promising prospects in his stable.

How would it rate if we brought Jarvis and Australian heavyweight champion Justis Huni down to Canberra to fight on the same card, Lonergan asked The Canberra Times.

Watching two fighters on the road to world title shots would be a blockbuster of epic proportions, the likes of which Canberra's fight scene has not witnessed in an eternity.

At just 21, Huni's next four bouts are mapped out before he chases a gold medal at the Olympic Games. Lonergan's plan pits him against the likes of Lucas Browne and Alex Leapai throughout the next seven months.

As for Jarvis, Fenech says we will wait to see what comes next.

"I'm just proud of him. It's super for me. I much more enjoy him doing this than I ever did," Fenech said.

"I just can't wait until he has the real IBF belt, or the WBO or WBC belt around his waist, because he has worked so hard and he deserves it.

"He goes and does his job in every fight, you can't get better. He's a good looking kid, he's got a great family, he's a good kid.

"I think he was more nervous than ever, but I really can't wait to see the ratings. I've had thousands of messages from people who watched the fight.

"Hopefully it was great for Fox because it was great for Brock, and it was great for boxing. It's great to be here in Canberra, sensational."

While Jarvis' demolition job served as the headline act, the card whipped up by D&L and Capital Fight Promotions also offered an Australian fight of the year contender.

Jacob Ng (14-0) was dropped in the opening round before surging back to defeat Hunter Ioane (8-1-1) for the IBF International and WBO Oriental lightweight titles in a fight for the ages.

Beyond that, Lonergan thought Queanbeyan product Alex Cooper's (4-0) unanimous decision win over Nathan Robson (2-1) was a sensational battle.

Now Jarvis, Schleibs and all those on the undercard can take a breath before getting ready to do it all again as they chase their next bouts.

"It feels good, I put a lot of hard work into it, but again, there's still a lot of work to do after that performance. I've got a lot of room for improvement. I've got a lot of work to do," Jarvis said.

"It was very special, especially to headline a show like this with such great fighters on the undercard, so thanks to my promoter Dean Lonergan for giving me the opportunity. I'm really happy and really excited about it.

"I've been out of the ring for a long time but it's good to finally get back in there and I really enjoyed it. Hopefully I can get back in there really soon."

Fenech admits the coronavirus pandemic was a concern after it left Jarvis without a bout in the foreseeable future.

"But we're blessed this one happened. I just hope we can get a couple in a row now, because that's how he is going to get better," Fenech said.

"We've been blessed, we've got an amazing team of sponsors and they get us everything we need. He's sparring Luke Jackson, he's sparring Hass Hamden, they're all bigger than him and better than Mark Schleibs, I believe, so just go out and do your job. Mark put up an amazing performance.

"First thing I'm going to do with Brock is we're going to have a nice pale ale from Ben Damon's beer, one will do.

"Then we'll sit down and talk to Stuart Duncan and Dean Lonergan and see what's next for us."
