Wests were beaten by Weston Creek Molonglo in round one of the limited overs competition, with rain washing out their next three fixtures.
And while the Lions sit atop the two-day Douglas Cup heading into Christmas, for Murn the scenario for this weekend is simple - overcome a powerful Queanbeyan outfit at Neil Bulgar Oval.
"We lost the first game against Weston Creek, it's not where we hoped to be in the one-day competition coming into round five, there is a bit of a challenge in front of us now," Murn said.
"We need to win at least two of our next three games, Queanbeyan is quite a good side. We know we have to play well to ensure we do qualify for finals, but we are confident that if we do play well, we will make the finals."
The 26-year-old made the move to Wests from ANU in 2019, lifting the Douglas Cup in his debut season for the club.
He has been in impressive form once again for Wests, taking 23 wickets at an average of 13 for his club, which included figures of 6-44 in last rounds two-day win over ANU.
Murn's form with the bat has as well been exceptional, blasting 263 runs at an average of 53 so far this season.
MORE CANBERRA CRICKET
"I have just really been enjoying my cricket," Murn said.
"It's a fantastic club the Western District's Cricket Club, it is a really good bunch of guys.
"Last season was a really good season, for both me and the team.
"Just building on that this year [has been the secret], I think in a way I have taken the confidence I had at the end of last season into this season.
"Really just enjoying my cricket and being around the guys, I have been working hard at training and fortunately the results have been going my way so far."
The all-rounder had a stint in Sydney in his youth, playing for UNSW Cricket Club alongside Weston Creek's Robbie Trickett.
Murn still aspires to go as high as possible in the game he loves, having represented the ACT Southern Districts and Aces team's this year.
"I didn't play first grade when I was in Sydney, I was only about 17-18 at the time. I think I started in about fourth grade and by the end I was playing two's and three's," he said.
"It was really good, the travel each week was quite a chore. It was certainly a big commitment, I thought it was a really good experience...for a young cricketer wanting to improve, I certainly got a lot out of it which I think brought back to Canberra.
"I am certainly wanting to be the best cricketer I can be... I want to look back on my time playing cricket knowing that I gave it a good crack and I went as far as I can."
Queanbeyan enter Saturday's blockbuster against Wests in sensational form after captain Mark Solway blasted a double ton in last weekend's big win over Eastlake.
