Canberra United look to take advantage of Viking Park record against Perth Glory

And that's why Vicki Linton's outfit is taking advantage of an extra match and their scoring record at Viking Park as they look to break back into the W-League's top four.

United has scored 14 goals at the venue so far this season but only three away from home - with half of the former scored by striker Michelle Heyman.

The 61-times capped Matilda is on the cusp becoming the W-League's all-time leading scorer in her own right, having drawn level with Sam Kerr on 70 goals in United's 4-1 triumph over the Brisbane Roar on Sunday.

She'll have her first chance to do so when Canberra meets the winless Perth Glory at Viking Park on Friday night, in what looms as a must-win clash for United on the road to finals.

The round-12 fixture was originally scheduled for Thursday night at Dorrien Gardens, but because United played in Melbourne on February 28 they're not permitted to enter Western Australia under current border restrictions.

United is undefeated at Viking Park and captain Kendall Fletcher said they're embracing the home advantage, especially given their scoring record at the venue.

"If you look at the amount of goals we've scored at home versus away, there's a big difference," Fletcher said.

"It's a bit unfortunate for Perth, they've had a rough go of it with COVID. Every team has had to deal with it in different ways, but you have to take the advantages when you can get it.

"We're definitely not complaining and we like to be at Viking Park."

The match looms as a must-win clash for United as it looks to end its longest finals drought, with three matches remaining the regular season.

Canberra sits two points outside the top four, although it has a match in hand over ladder leaders Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United.

"We have an opportunity to make finals. If we're able to get the results, we deserve to be there. If not, then we didn't measure up," Fletcher said.

"We can be really proud of what we're doing, just putting ourselves in a position to be there in the finals.

"I think we're a finals football-quality team. We have to make sure week-in and week-out we're able to put a performance on the field like we did this weekend [against Brisbane].

"Perth is dangerous, they've proven that in moments in games. You can't count anybody out."

Glory enters the match with only one point next to its name, a draw against United in round five.

The westerners will play four matches this fortnight to make up for fixtures missed due to COVID-19 complications, with Alexander Epakis's side looking to overcome a four-day turnaround.

"I do feel for them, they've had such a hard season," Linton said.

"For them to do extra travel is tough but we're very grateful to be at home. It's a short turnaround, that benefits us for sure. They've been playing two games a week over the last few weeks. Watching their games, they have some good individuals and are still trying to play some good football.

"For us, it's a mental test on being switched on. Can we execute? Can we be clinical?"
