James Slipper could emerge as the answer for battered ACT Brumbies

A possible MCL strain is likely to keep Tom Ross sidelined for the Brumbies clash with the Western Force at Canberra Stadium on Friday week.

Allan Alaalatoa still has two games left to serve on his suspension, leaving coach Dan McKellar with the option of slotting Slipper, who has made a name for himself as a loosehead prop but is capable at tighthead, into the starting side or promoting rookie Archer Holz.

Slipper has missed three games due to an MCL strain but is likely to be in the frame to face the Force as the Brumbies face a major test in the front-row with Scott Sio to be sent for more scans on his right elbow.

Flanker Tom Cusack is seen as a chance to play but unlikely following what club officials believe was a subluxation of his left shoulder, which would leave McKellar searching for a third captain in as many games.

The club's growing injury ward suggests this week's bye has come at the perfect time for Super Rugby AU's reigning champions after last week's thriller against Queensland.

"No one wants to get injured, but unfortunately that's a part of our game," Brumbies hooker Folau Fainga'a said.

"Fortunately we've got the depth in our squad to cover whoever goes down. For the young guys, what a moment for them to get to step up and put on that Brumby jersey.

"I'm excited for guys like young Arch to step up. I don't know what's going to happen with the boys and their injuries.

"But exciting times for the depth in our squad and for them to step up, and really experience Super Rugby.

"The boys are still around at training. For us as a group, we've just got to regroup together and look forward to the Force."
