Accused murderer Joshua Higgins felt 'violated' by friend, court hears

A video of Mr Higgins' police interview was played to the jury on Friday, where he recounted his version of the night he stabbed Jae-Ho Oh multiple times.

The prosecution case is that Mr Higgins had injected ice, hadn't slept for two days and had been drinking when he murdered the 56-year-old.

But while 32-year-old admits he fought Mr Oh with a knife in the early hours of on March 11, 2019, he denies the allegation of murder.

In the interview, Detective Acting Sergeant Emma-Lea Beere tells Mr Higgins they want to talk about the death of Mr Oh and he appears shocked.

He screams "What?!" and pushes himself away from the table and sobs, asking repeatedly: "He's f---ing dead?"

Dressed in a blue forensic suit he throws himself face down on the floor and retches into a waste paper bin handed to him by police.

Later, he described his struggles with gambling and mental health and said he had always been the "black sheep" of the family.

He said Mr Oh was egging him on to drink that night then "suddenly his mood swings" and he got "really standoffish".

Mr Oh told him it was time to go to bed and then Mr Higgins said he woke up with Mr Oh on top of him.

The jury heard he did not know what his friend was doing but said he had "also tried to do something the night before".

Mr Higgins said "his lips are on my face".

He said he asked Mr Oh if he could get off him and that they argued and Mr Oh told him to get out.
