The incident happened late last year, and police say they spotted the 39-year-old man in Bonner on Thursday.
They say he was threatening towards officers, and they used police dogs and a Taser to try to restrain and arrest him. He tried to run away, but officers caught him a short time later.
"It is alleged in November 2020, the man doused his partner in methylated spirits and threatened to set her alight with a cigarette lighter he was holding in his hand before she managed to flee," police said in a statement.
"Yesterday [Thursday], police observed the man in the bushes in a park. Police approached the man and recognised him as the alleged offender. Police directed him not to move as there was a warrant for his arrest.
"It is alleged the man verbally threatened police before running at an officer."
It was at this point that police used the dogs and Taser.
Police said that after being chased and arrested, the man was assessed by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics and taken to hospital under police guard, before being moved to the ACT Regional Watch House.
They expect the man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, facing a number of family violence related charges including, one count of acts endangering life, reckless threat to inflict grievous bodily harm and resist a public official.
