ACT Brumbies winger Andy Muirhead on the verge of a boyhood Wallabies dream

Now the former courier could deliver on a childhood dream as the ACT Brumbies winger emerges as a contender to be called into a Wallabies squad on Snday.

Wallabies coach Dave Rennie will name a 40-man squad on Sunday for a three-day camp at Sanctuary Cove near the Gold Coast.

Muirhead has been banging down the door with standout performances for Super Rugby AU's reigning champions and could soon find himself being sized up for a gold jersey.

"Obviously it's always a dream as a young kid to play for the Wallabies," Muirhead said.

"If I was included in a squad like that, I would obviously be ecstatic but it's not something I've got my two eyes on. I'm just trying to do what I can here.

"I'm enjoying playing for the Brumbies, I just want to play well and do what I can here."

Muirhead staked his claim for a call-up with two tries in the Brumbies' 28-point drubbing of the Western Force while outside centre Len Ikitau scored a double of his own to press his case.

"I was on a bit of a dry spell for tries, I needed something. I was happy to be on the end of some good skill and get over the line," Muirhead said.

"Myself and Lenny came down at the same time and we've all been waiting for him to get an opportunity.

"We all knew about the skill set he has got and we always knew he was going to perform pretty well at a high level.

"He's getting more and more confident every week, it's good to be outside him. He's silky."

A raft of other Brumbies backs are in the frame for Rennie's looming Wallabies camp, with Nic White, Noah Lolesio and Irae Simone all playing Test football last year.

Wallabies winger Tom Wright could also be named despite not playing a game all season due to a knee injury.

Wright could return to the fray for a clash with the NSW Waratahs this week but concedes he is no guarantee to slot straight into the starting XV.

Mack Hansen has been so impressive in his absence that the Canberra junior has been floated as a Wallabies bolter for a camp that is more about logistics than game plans.

"We've been waiting for Wrighty and Sol [Kata] to come back for a couple of weeks now and it's good to finally have them back," Muirhead said. "We saw last year, they both had big impacts on the game."
