Canberra Raiders show Warriors where they need to be

It was a nice sentiment from the Warriors coach in his first season with the Kiwi club.

They'd just finished a last-gasp, come-from-behind victory over a wounded Raiders outfit that was down to 14 fit players after just 13 minutes.

Even then it was probably only 13 players, with Canberra centre Curtis Scott playing almost all of the game with a suspected broken floating rib.

Brown's come in to continue building on the foundation Todd Payten started last year as the acting coach.

The fight Brown saw from the Raiders is what he wanted his players to produce.

He also saw what his own players were capable of - producing the biggest ever comeback win in the Warriors' history.

They were 21 points down with 32 minutes remaining.

He was also full of praise for skipper Roger Tuivasa-Shek, who not only scored a try to bring them back within three points with 10 minutes remaining, but also saving one when he stopped Raiders winger Jordan Rapana from scoring in the corner with just eight seconds left.

"There's a couple of big lessons there for us," Brown said.

"Firstly the opposition clearly showed why they've been a top-four team. Their effort to lose three players and have a bloke with a floating broken rib probably showed what they've created down here [in Canberra].

"So that's a huge lesson for us as a club, if we want to become a top-four club.

"The other big lesson is if we get a few more things consistent and right, we showed that we've got a handy footy team there."

And in regards to the controversial forward-pass non-call from the referee?

Brown had only seen it once, but felt they might've been a bit lucky.

But he felt they'd been unlucky with those calls in the past. What comes around, goes around.

"I haven't had a look at it again ... we lost a close one last week and we might've got a touch lucky this week by the sounds of things," Brown said.

"I haven't had a look at it again, but a few people have said we might've got a bit of a call there."
