Coronavirus: ACT virus-free again as new rules imposed on Brisbane travellers

There is no longer anybody in hotel quarantine from a government-chartered repatriation flight that landed in Canberra on March 1. Five people from that flight were diagnosed with the virus while in quarantine.

It comes as the territory government has tightened the rules for travellers from Greater Brisbane.

There have been three community transmissions of COVID-19 detected in Brisbane since Friday. The most recent case was a man on Sunday but authorities are confident he is no longer infectious.

Anybody in Canberra who has been in the Greater Brisbane area is required to complete an online declaration form on the ACT Health website from midday Sunday.

As well, anybody in Canberra who has been in the Brisbane City Council or Moreton Bay Regional Council areas since March 11 has to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said the situation in Queensland was being closely monitored.

"It is expected of course that we will potentially see more cases there over the coming days given that we have seen a few incidences of transmission already," Ms Stephen-Smith said.

Ms Stephen-Smith said more staff had been put on at testing centres across Canberra but urged patience as waiting times had increased.

"We know that this is causing people to turn up to our testing facilities and while more staff have been put on the wait is longer at our testing centres than has been over the last few weeks when we've had fewer people seeking testing," she said.

"So we're asking people to please be patient and please be respectful of our staff at our testing centres."

Ms Stephen-Smith said the ACT government was working to get some information about the number of people who had flown from Brisbane to Canberra since March 11 and would make contact with them once their details became available.
