Canberra Raiders trainer in the spotlight for hand in Penrith Panthers melee

NRL head of football Graham Annesley says the incident, which occurred in the 65^th minute of Canberra's clash with Penrith last Friday night, is being investigated for a possible breach of NRL operational rules.

A Canberra trainer in a club shirt and cap placed his hand on Panther Tyrone May and confronted James Fisher-Harris, before the pair were separated by Jack Wighton.

The Raiders have opted not to name the trainer, while section 8.8.2 of the NRL operations manual states "under no circumstances are trainers permitted to approach or become involved in an altercation".

"That is actively under review right now. I would hope there would be an outcome on that, if not later today then certainly by tomorrow," Annesley said.

"There's no normal course of action. We have rules set out [that dictate what] trainers and people on the sideline can and can't do. That's all in the NRL operations manual.

"No two incidents on the field are the same, no two incidents off the field are quite the same either. The reason why we can't have a quicker turnaround on some of these things is they often require a deeper investigation than just what you can see on the video.

"We gather whatever information we need, that information gets presented up the chain, and a decision is made about whether clubs have breached our operational rules or not."

Meanwhile, Raiders firebrand Hudson Young has silenced the doubts in his own mind as he bounces back from injury intent on shutting down the Parramatta pack.

Young has overcome a knee injury and come through two games unscathed leading into a clash with the Eels at Canberra Stadium on Saturday night.

"It was probably a more mental thing," Young said. "Against the Titans in the first 10 minutes I was thinking of it a little bit, but after that you say to yourself 'if it's going to hurt, it's going to hurt'. You get over that pretty fast."
