Bolton produced a superb drive from the back of the pack at Brobenah Raceway last month to earn the chequered flag and consign his nephew to a second-straight finish as runner-up.
"Family is the reason I do it," Bolton said.
"We all like to go out and win, but the fact that my son and my nephew race in this class and we all get to go away as a family, that's what it's all about."
Bolton earned the Australian title the hard way, starting the feature race in 12th position after a one-way receiver malfunction disrupted his qualifying.
With one lap remaining Bolton was in fourth and Egan sat third, before the top two cars collided. It gave Bolton a chance to pass his nephew late on to secure the win, and he did just that.
"I knew I was quicker than him in a certain area, but I knew I had to make the move stick, which is what I did coming out of turn three," Bolton said.
"The whole weekend leaves a funny taste in my mouth because there were guys there that possibly deserved to win it but they didn't. I've been doing it for a while and I've won a couple of titles before, it's just one of those things that you've got to be there to be in it to win it."
Egan, who recovered into second spot after spinning out mid race, was hopeful next season would prove a case of third-time lucky.

"To finish second again in an Australian Title is a tough pill to swallow, but at the same, it drives me to come back and try it again," the Belconnen man said.
"It was disappointing to make the mistake. Restarting at the back of the field, I knew I was up against it, but I just wanted to do everything that I could to get back to the front.
"Troy [Bolton] got under me within sight of the chequered flag, and I went on to lose the drag race between us to the finish line."
Bolton will look to finish the season in style over the final two meetings of the season, starting at Bega's Sapphire Raceway on Saturday.
