Melanoma Awareness Day Pambula honours Tracey Beasley

The event had been held in memory of beloved Pambula woman Tracey Beasley who lost her battle with cancer in 2019.

Organiser Louise Yeoman said they created the event to carry on Tracey's wish to spread melanoma awareness.

"Tracey was all about promoting melanoma awareness, she'd be so proud of us today," Ms Yeoman said.

Ms Yeoman individually contacted several of Tracey's friends, on behalf of the Pambula Business Chamber's Melanoma Awareness sub-committee, and brought them together to run the event.

"It's been quite an emotional ride for us particularly this morning when we did the ceremony and lit the candle for Tracey."

She said they had all been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community and the support from local businesses in the area.

The event was supported by Pambula Business Chamber in conjunction with major sponsor Robert Smith Furnishings and Sleep Doctor, as well as Rotary Pambula and Discovery Parks Pambula Beach.

A variety of entertainment, activities and food were offered by local businesses that had jumped on board.

A Health Hub tent was set up on the day to provide melanoma education and prevention information as well as free health checks by health professionals.

The event kicked off at 11am at Discovery Parks Pambula Beach and attracted around 1000 people throughout the course of the day.

Families gathered to eat food and listen to live music as kids ran around with their faces painted, played games and petted animals from Tiny Zoo.

"I'm so excited to see the constant flow of people and just the community coming together, checking in on each other, this is all about community and Tracey was all about community, she would be so happy," Tracey's friend, Tracy Elton said.
