Canberra Raiders apply to bring Curtis Scott into the NRL bubble

Scott's still in Sydney after the NRL finally handed down a three-game ban and a $15,000 fine - which will be doubled as he already had a $15,000 suspended fine hanging over his head.

But the suspension's effectively more than double that after the Raiders stood him down for his alleged involvement in a bar brawl at the end of May before round 14.

The 23-year-old has already missed four games, with the finalisation of the ban coming after Canberra coach Ricky Stuart had named his team on Tuesday.

Given Scott might now have to spend two weeks in quarantine in Canberra before he's allowed to resume training again it means he'll likely miss at least seven games before he's eligible for selection again.

Raiders chief executive Don Furner said they'd put an application in to the NRL to see how to bring him back into the fold.

Scott's been in Sydney for several weeks, having been given a training program to follow after he was stood down indefinitely by the Raiders.

The coronavirus outbreak and lockdown of Greater Sydney means Scott would need to get an exemption from the ACT government to return to Canberra, where he would likely have to spend two weeks self isolating at home.

Then he'd be able to return to training within the bubble.

The Raiders flew to the Gold Coast on Wednesday, where they'll be based for at least the next month, ahead of their crucial clash with Cronulla on Saturday.

They've only included 29 players as part of their initial squad leaving them one spot to bring in another player.

"We've just seen the sanctions from the NRL and we'll accept those sanctions," Furner said.

Given the severity of the NRL sanction, it's looking unlikely the Raiders board would impose any additional sanctions.

The Canberra Times revealed CCTV footage of Scott appearing to throw punches at a patron of Civic nightclub Kokomo's on May 30.

No police charges were laid, but Scott has been stood down ever since.

"We've put in a request to the NRL to ask how we get him back here to train or what happens if he goes later up there [to Queensland]," Furner said.

"We've just got to work out what the protocols are for him."

Stuart was unsure what the biosecurity protocols would be for Scott, but thought he might be able to complete his quarantine in Canberra.

He hadn't looked ahead to whether he would look to bring Scott into the bubble if and when he became eligible for selection again under the Apollo guidelines.

"I haven't even thought of that. I've picked 29 players to go away and do a job for me and that's what I'm sticking to," Stuart said.
