Located in Garema Place, where Honkytonks used to be, the HARVAC group has given the property new life, transforming the tired space into a refined mezcal bar and eatery. Capezio Copeland have done the design.
It promises "experimental and elevated Mexican flavours with a strong emphasis on mezcal and tequila delivered in an informal and lively way".
Recognising Canberra's hunger for exotic dining experiences Michael Harrington said their goal has always been to breathe life into Canberra's dining scene.
"We know we can achieve that through authentic food experiences, delivered in an upbeat way while locals are missing travel," he said.
Executive chef James Viles (ex. Biota) and head chef Brendan Hill (ex. Aria and 12-Micron) say the Loquita menu will be a refreshing change from the fast-food Mexican chains, marrying traditional flavours and technique with the HARVAC flair that's expected from each of their venues.
"Loquita is an incredible addition to Canberra's diversely populated dining scene," says Viles.
"It's always exciting to bring regional Mexican flavours with modern ideas to a city we know will appreciate it.
"Diners can expect plates that adapt or entirely reinvent the genre, with a heavy focus on coal fired cooking resulting in smoky flavours across the menu."

An extensive range of mezcal tequila, Mexican beers and sangria are the perfect companion to the tacqueria-style food. From fresh corn tortillas to slow-cooked beef rib, spit-roast pork and tempura fish, the eatery is fueled with fiery flavours to satisfy every palate.
Loquita is soft launching from August 4, accepting walk-ins only for the first fortnight with the official opening Mid-August.
