ACT records 19 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday

Eleven of the cases were in quarantine for their entire infectious period, but six had spent part of their infectious period in the community, and the infectious status of two is under investigation.

Thirteen cases are linked to known cases, and the other six remain under investigation.

Eight people are in hospital, one remains in intensive care on a ventilator. Six of the hospitalised cases were unvaccinated and the other two have only received their first dose.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said he was pleased to see an increase in testing numbers, with 3500 tests carried out on Monday, this was up from 2488 from the day before.

"This is a big increase that we're really pleased to see," he said.

It comes as there will be changes to testing clinics in Canberra, with the Weston Creek walk-in centre and Brindabella Park testing centre to close from Wednesday.

The Garran Surge Centre will again be used as a testing centre from Wednesday, after vaccination appointments were moved to the Australian Institute of Sport in Bruce.

More than 71 per cent of the ACT's population over 16 have received their first dose.

"So that's about 246,000 of the 344,000 who are 16-plus who've had that first dose," Mr Barr said.

"We have 47.6 per cent with a second dose and that is around 164,000 Canberrans aged 16 years or older.

"Our city has a population of 431,000. That means today, there are still 185,000 Canberrans without any vaccination at all. And 267,000 who are not fully vaccinated.

"This means we are still several months away from 80 per cent of our 12-plus population being fully vaccinated.

"So the vaccination program remains our number one priority over the coming months."

Mr Barr also said the ACT government vaccination clinics had a record day of jabs on Monday, with more than 3000 doses administered.

ACT chief health officer Dr Kerryn Coleman confirmed that over the course of Canberra's outbreak there have been 23 individuals hospitalised with COVID-19.

There are more than 330 active exposure locations in the ACT, including the ACT Bruce campus student accommodation hall, which was added last night.

There are also 1400 self-identified close contacts in quarantine in the territory.

In recent days, authorities have expressed alarm about people who have breached isolation rules by shopping or going to medical appointments while waiting for their COVID-19 test result.

There is also growing concern that NSW's outbreak is continuing to encroach into the ACT, as authorities are investigating four separate introductions of the virus into the ACT.
