ACT police say Canberrans are abiding by lockdown rules and public health orders during COVID restrictions

In the past week ACT police said they have conducted more than 3200 traffic stops across the territory.

They said officers have also conducted more than 800 checks of people and businesses, and issued 14 infringements and 22 cautions for breaches of health directions.

Detective Superintendent Naomi Binstead said police were pleased with the level of compliance and were asking the community to keep it up.

"We saw some restrictions relaxed last week and people have generally met those new rules. We're keen to make sure people keep up the mask wearing and only gather in outdoor groups of up to five in line with the directions," she said.

"We remind everyone that unless you are travelling for essential purposes, you should not be on the road. Our Road Policing officers will continue the anywhere, anytime approach for compliance activities.

"ACT Policing will continue to deploy its dedicated COVID-19 Taskforce each day to ensure we're all doing what we can to stop the spread."
