Constable Sheldon Cooper, from Burnie on the north west coast, shares the name of the lead character of popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
He said he first became aware of the show when googling his name and had watched the odd episode.
"It aired in Australia a little while later and I have been copping a bit of flak for the name ever since," Constable Cooper said.
"You get the typical bazinga and catchphrases the show has. I did try to buy a car once and they didn't believe it was my name.
"I tend to avoid using my full name unless I need to really break the ice."
Constable Cooper's name caught the attention of Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage who posted about it on social media.

He isn't the only Tasmania Police officer to have a brush with fame.
In 2017 Launceston's Will Smith won a competition to represent his famous namesake at a film premiere and then was flown to Los Angeles to meet the star.
Constable Cooper grew up at Wynyard and has been serving as a policeman since graduating from the academy in 2015.
He said joining the service had been one of the best decisions he had made because he knew that each day he would be making a difference in the community.
"It got a bit monotonous doing the same thing in previous jobs and I wanted to help out the community and try something with a bit more excitement and something different every day," he said.
"The job has definitely delivered, it is one of the best decisions I have made in my life."
