Canberra records 10 new cases of COVID-19, hits 90% vaccination

There are 11 people hospitalised with the virus, six of whom are in intensive care, with five requiring ventilation.

The new cases bring the active total to 280, while the number of cases associated with this outbreak now stands at 1617.

Meanwhile, the percentage of the eligible population who are now fully vaccinated has reached 90.5 per cent

The ACT has extended its lead as the most vaccinated jurisdiction in Australia, hitting the 90.5 per cent mark.

The territory has the highest rate of full and partial vaccination among the eligible population - those aged 12 and over - of any state and territory.

As the ACT crosses this new vaccination threshold, further changes to test, trace, isolate and quarantine rules will be announced on Wednesday.

Chief health officer Dr Kerryn Coleman has previously indicated the ACT could move to shorten the quarantine period for contacts of COVID-19 cases, a move other states, including Victoria, have already made.

An epidemiological update provided by the chief health officer also followed three days of low COVID-19 case numbers in the ACT.

There were 12 cases reported on Tuesday, after nine cases were reported on both Sunday and Monday.

Victoria has recorded 1534 new COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths in the 24 hours to midnight.

The state is now at 76 per cent fully vaccinated for citizens over 16 years.

There are 748 patients in hospital with COVID-19, with 138 in ICU and 87 ventilated.

NSW recorded 304 locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday, with a single case in an international traveller.

Three people have died with COVID-19 in the most recent reporting period, NSW Health has confirmed.

The 305 cases mean there are now 418 people in hospital statewide, with 97 requiring intensive care.

On the vaccination front 93.2 per cent of people aged 16 or older have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in NSW.

There have been no new community virus cases recorded in Queensland the day after two people tested positive, including a teenage boy on the Gold Coast.

Authorities were on alert after Tuesday's cases, having confirmed the 17-year old was a household contact of a woman who recently travelled from NSW.

Meanwhile, fully vaccinated Australians will no longer need to apply for an exemption to leave the country, ahead of the country easing its international borders.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed the exemption will be scrapped from November 1, when overseas flights will resume.

South Australia is set to lift its travel ban on Canberrans for the first time in five months, but only fully vaccinated visitors from the ACT will be granted entry to the state.

South Australia will scrap its domestic border restrictions from November 23 and open up to people from all states if they have had two COVID-19 vaccination jabs.

Canberrans have been unable to visit South Australia since June, when Premier Steven Marshall shut the borders because of concerns about the NSW outbreak.
