The idea of brand new venues opening in Canberra is an exciting thought at the best of times, even moreso now post lockdown where they make us think about how much the world has indeed changed since the last time we ducked into town for a coffee.

We'll be lured into the new L'Americano Espresso Bar (and the new Coco Republic flagship store), on the Bunda Street corner of the Canberra Centre with its promise to transport us to the Italian Riviera. The L'Americano's interior is based upon the iconic '90s movie The Talented Mr Ripley and the menu inspired by the artisan food heritage of the region.
Anthony Spon-Smith, Coco Republic's co-chief executive officer and chief creative officer, said the Canberra venue is the first of its kind within the group.
"We are thrilled to launch our new flagship showroom and L'Americano bar and restaurant in the nation's capital," he said.
"We are still filled with the same excitement and anticipation we felt when we opened our very first showroom over 40 years ago. I am incredibly proud to think of how far we've come as a brand.
"By the end of 2021 we will have both a retail and hospitality offering in multiple states across the country."
The menu at the Canberra bar and restaurant will be more extensive than that offered elsewhere, with its modern Italian trattoria menu, artisanal coffee from the espresso bar and separate bar featuring an extensive wine and cocktail list.
With seating both indoors, at the bar or alfresco, the menu is suitable for all occasions. Think light salads or mouth-watering pasta for lunch, sharing plates and cocktails in the early evening or perhaps Italian-style pizza from the wood fired oven with a bottle of Italian or Australian wine for dinner.
Standout dishes include tajima wagu flat iron steak with porchini butter and broccolini; king prawn linguine; wood roast baby chicken with nduja butter and baby peas that could be paired with a glass of borolo or a dolce amaro from the cocktail list making for a sensational dinner date.
The restaurant will be open for lunch seven days a week and plans for dinner are afoot. The full menu will be available from November 5.
And make sure you duck into Coco Republic as well for some delicious homewares and furniture.
The best of both worlds.

Armada Bar
If I'm running with a theme, gather your friends - think Gwyneth, Jude, Cate, Matt and Philip Seymour Hoffman - and pretend you're sailing around Venice as you pull into the Armada Bar at The Boathouse.
A summer favourite before lockdown locked us down, the Armada Bar is back better than ever. And they working with GoBoat for a VIP experience worthy of a star-studded cast.
There'll be a new jetty for arrival by boat, where you can embark on a piloted tour of the lake and finish up for drinks at your own reserved table upon your return.
"After the amazing response last season, we can't wait to welcome everyone back this year," says Boathouse owner James Souter.
"This season is bigger and better than ever. We have an updated menu, new wine list and great new offerings like the VIP GoBoat experience."
While bookings are available, they are keeping around half of the tables available for walk-ins, he says, "so feel free to pop down and grab a table, or even bring your own rug to nab a spot on the grass".
The menu is designed and prepared by chef John Leverink and the same team that handles the fine-dining affair of the main restaurant. The same dedication to quality and ingredients remains, with a view to being more casual and approachable.
The drinks list is expansive and features a range of cocktails, beers, nonalcoholics and wines. Sommelier Kate Hibberson presents a tight and focused wine list, pulling from the best in the region, with a pinch of international flavour.
The season is expected to run until the end of March, 2022. Bookings are recommended for groups up to 20 but walk-ins are available.
