Four-bedroom Ainslie house among 141 Canberra auctions slated for the week ahead

According to CoreLogic, there are 141 auctions scheduled for the week ahead, compared to 125 last week.

Across the combined capital cities, 3629 homes were slated for auction this week, compared to 1747 this time last year.

Going under the hammer on Saturday is a four-bedroom house situated on a prime 1099-square-metre block in Ainslie.

It's the first time in 74 years the property has been up for sale.

The house itself has no heritage significance and is drawing strong interest from buyers with a renovation in mind.

Selling agent Lucy MacGregor of Ian McNamee & Partners said 26 Angas Street was expected to sell for more than $1.7 million.

"It's been about a three-week campaign and over that time we've shown over 30 people through one-on-one, but there'd be a number of people who potentially wouldn't need to inspect given that they'd just be looking at using the land," she said.

"A lot of the buyers have been people who are looking to do renovations or potentially even a knockdown-rebuild."

Real Estate Institute of the ACT chief executive Michelle Tynan said after a short delay, the spring selling season was now under way.

"We're just really excited to see so many properties coming back into the market and hopefully now we can see that upward trend of [new] listings," she said.

High demand for property has seen Canberra's auction clearance rates surge.

Earlier this month, Canberra reported a clearance rate of 93.6 per cent, its highest result since late July.
