Bruce Lehrmann committed for trial over alleged Parliament House rape of Brittany Higgins

Bruce Lehrmann, 26, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court over the phone on Friday morning.

He had previously pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual intercourse without consent.

"Hello, it's Bruce speaking," the Queensland man said when magistrate Robert Cook's associate got him on the line.

Mr Lehrmann's solicitor, Warwick Korn, applied for the matter to be committed for trial with the consent of ACT Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold SC.

Mr Cook therefore waived the committal proceedings and sent the case to the superior court, where Mr Lehrmann's matter will be listed for directions on November 18.

The case will go before a registrar on that occasion to start the process of finding suitable trial dates.

Police have alleged Mr Lehrmann raped Ms Higgins in the office of Linda Reynolds when the pair worked for the federal government minister in March 2019.

Mr Lehrmann's barrister, John Korn, has previously told The Canberra Times it was his client's position that no sexual activity, consensual or otherwise, took place.

While the identities of alleged rape victims are ordinarily suppressed, Ms Higgins has consented to being named in media coverage of the case.
