We asked you over the course of this past week to let us know what were the main issues you felt needed addressing as you considered who to vote for in the coming local government election.
Thank you to everyone who contributed responses, which we have collated and ranked in order of how often each topic came up.
The Top 5 issues concerning our community, as voted by you, are:
Climate change and the environment (by a large margin);
Affordable housing;
Heritage and timber bridges;
Council's financial position and community expectations; and
Provision, maintenance and improvement of public infrastructure such as parks and roads.
An honourable mention to sewage treatment options/ocean outfall proposal, which came within a flush of the top five.
Pointed questions regarding those top five topics have now been distributed to each of the 18 candidates vying for a spot around the BVSC table.
In order to remain fair and unbiased we will be imposing the same timeframe and word limit on everyone, letting readers decide who best represents their interests.
We will bring you their responses over the coming weeks ahead of polling day on December 4.
