The laid-back 21-year-old from Sydney's northern beaches made the trip to Canberra with his Thunder teammates, but was sporting a brace on his right arm at training on Saturday after fracturing his finger in a Sydney grade game earlier this summer.
It means there'll be no big-hitting heroics in Canberra from the young gun until the Thunder's second fixture in the capital on December 28.
Davies blasted five consecutive sixes at Manuka Oval last summer, instantly endearing him to the raucous crowd in just his second Big Bash outing.
He was one of the finds of the Big Bash last summer, alongside Thunder teammate Tanveer Sangha whose leg spinners netted 21 wickets in his debut season.
"It will be interesting to see how people like Ollie Davies and Tanveer Sangha actually react to their second season at this level," Thunder coach Trevor Bayliss said.
"Last year they came in and not a lot of people hadn't actually seen them. The teams we play against [this season] will have plans to play against those couple of guys.
"It'll be interesting from a cricket fan point of view to see how they react to that extra pressure of having to maybe combat some different tactics against them."

Bayliss said he wasn't concerned about the prospect of Davies or Sangha suffering from second-season syndrome.
"How they react under that different pressure, there's a core group of older players and the coaches here that will hopefully be able to talk them through some of those different scenarios," Bayliss said.
"In the end it does get down to that individual player and how they handle that extra pressure.
"If there are some different tactics. . .it'll be what can they do to actually combat that.
"Can they play a different shot, can they develop a different shot, can they develop a different ball."
