Over 70 people gathered in the green space opposite Pambula's historic Royal Willows Hotel on Saturday, December 4, to voice their feelings on the proposal to demolish the building and replace it with a supermarket and bottle shop.

A number of speakers addressed the gathering of protesters in Pambula on Saturday, speaking in opposition to the demolition of the Royal Willows Hotel.
Chris Ralfs of Pambula said change was necessary but said it needed to be done in the context of the town.

There have been concerns about the traffic plan, as well as run off into Panboola wetlands from the proposed development.
"It's absurb to be having an underground car park in a flood zone. We need to encouage another meeting. The scale of this is all wrong for the village," Mick Brosnan of Pambula told the crowd of protesters on Saturday morning.
Peter Gill of Merimbula was full of praise for the workmanship in older buildings. He knows something about the subject having been employed to help to renovate old school and government buildings for the NSW government following his apprenticeship.
"They were built to last and should be allowed to last," Mr Gill said.
On Tuesday, December 7 the Southern Regional Planning Panel heard from speakers for and against the proposal and also from a representative for the owners, as it reviewed the DA for the work.
