The Ginninderra Tiger will be spurred on by his Ngunnawal heritage when he leads the Thunder men's team at this summer's Cricket NSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Twenty20 Cup.
The tournament will be held on Wiradjuri land in Albury-Wodonga from January 11-14, aptly coinciding with the BBL's First Nations round in the new year.
Fitzpatrick has been anointed captain in a tournament that will feature Indigenous teams from the Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars. A women's competition will feature the Thunder, Sixers, and a Cricket Victoria XI.
"Being given this opportunity to lead, not just a cricket team, but also my people, fills me with great pride and enjoyment," Fitzpatrick said.

"I love that this initiative is focused on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and gives us opportunities to demonstrate our skills and abilities, whilst bringing us together to share our stories."
Border restrictions brought on by COVID-19 saw the tournament pushed from November into January, with Cricket NSW officials planning to combine cricket and culture across the multi-day event.
Fitzpatrick's Thunder outfit will play three pool games followed by a final and/or third-place play off in the four-team competition. The women's tri-series will see each team play each other once before a final.
