And it's for this reason that more people are turning towards private catering, with bespoke menus for their special occasion, whether it's a wedding, party or just an intimate dinner at home. (Who wouldn't want to host an amazing dinner party and not have to step foot in the kitchen, or even set the table?)
This is where Occasioni by Agostinis comes in. The team behind the Kingston restaurant has branched out to bring their honest Italian cuisine and great service for private events.
For Agostinis' executive chef, Francesco Balestrieri, the new venture is a chance to stretch his culinary wings, as it offers him and his team regular opportunities to come up with new dishes and menus.
"The restaurant sees us change the menu every three months but with this, the point is the customer decides what we make," he says.
"So for the customer, this is more fun compared to a normal wedding, for example. At every wedding, you only get the choice of chicken or fish. Whereas this one, the customer decides.
"We'll come up with a menu at the beginning but 75 per cent of the time things will change because we want the customer to have their say.
"So it's a challenge for us, it is good for the customer, it is good for all the guests because it's different. Agostinis and East Hotel's policy is to offer that difference and if you do the same stuff every time, it is boring for me and the 21 chefs in the kitchen."
Occasioni is a way of bringing the restaurant menu to a venue of choice. Agostinis has teamed up with The Social Club in Kingston, with customers who hire the venue given the option of having the restaurant cater their event. But the experience can also come to a winery or any special venue.
