ACT Magistrates Court grants alleged drug maker Yoestito Hasan bail after suspected GHB tests negative

Father-of-three Yoestito Musa Hasan, 41, allegedly told police he was making his own soap, tyre shine and a chemical that would "make him last longer in bed" when they searched his Civic apartment in February.

Mr Hasan has pleaded not guilty to a charge of manufacturing a controlled drug, after police claimed he stored illegal substances in a Smiggle lunchbox and baby bottles.

Police officers said they also found a clear liquid in a saucepan with "cloudy white" granules, which they believed to be GHB, also known as liquid ecstasy.

Also in the home, they said, were a table-mounted magnifier glass with a light attachment, lidless glass jars of different sizes with clear liquids and a white "caked on substance" covering four stove plates.

Court documents say the "liquids and granules" seized by police were sent to the ACT Government Analytical Laboratory for testing.

The ACT Magistrates Court heard on Thursday that two of more than 15 samples taken by police had returned negative results when tested for GHB.

Defence lawyer Toni Tu'ulakitau said Mr Hasan should not have to wait in custody to wait for the rest of the test results to return, which may take months.

But prosecutor Mark Wadsworth opposed bail, saying "known drug users" had been seen visiting Mr Hasan's Civic home and the man was believed to have had a "wide customer base".

While the court heard Mr Hasan had been accepted into an outpatient rehabilitation program, Mr Wadsworth said the alleged drug manufacturer was "motivated by pure financial profit".

Magistrate Robert Cook granted Mr Hasan bail, saying he would have to be at his parents' house between 6pm and 7am, but he was otherwise able to "do anything he likes during the day".

Mr Cook declined a prosecution request to prevent Mr Hasan from being in possession of ingredients such as eucalyptus oil or copper sulphate, which may be used to make GHB.

During the search earlier this year, police said they found a Smiggle lunchbox with what they believed was methylamphetamine.

They claimed six baby bottles containing "a clear liquid with a thick and slimy viscosity" were found in a red Mitsubishi Outlander parked at the car space assigned to Mr Hasan's unit.

They said they also seized a tube of cleanser and polish, a bottle of aquachef self strip, a bottle of eucalyptus oil, a packet of copper sulphate, a tube of tomato vegetable powder; a bottle of Ouro-Tuss cough medicine, two 10ml syringes, a bottle of Tarnoff tarnish remover; and tubs of caustic soda, vitamin B6 and empty vegetable capsules.

Mr Hasan will appear in court again at a later date.
