In a final task to secure an advantageous above the line position on the senate ballot, independent ACT candidate Kim Rubenstein has announced a running mate in another Kim, ABC Canberra host Kim Huynh.

It comes months after the party vehicle of the constitutional expert and author, Kim for Canberra, was confirmed by the Australian Electoral Commission as a political party. At least two candidates must officially run for a party to get an above-the-line group ticket position on the ballot.
Dr Huynh is an ANU politics and philosophy lecturer and local ABC Radio presenter in Canberra, who arrived in Australia with his family as refugees from Vietnam in 1979.

He ran as an independent candidate for the ACT Legislative Assembly in 2016.
"I'm honoured and buzzed about joining Kim for Canberra," Dr Huynh said in a statement. "Kim Rubenstein is the most positive and capable candidate that Canberra has ever seen. We also happen to be good mates."
"Like Kim, I'm committed to integrity, climate action, diversity, and women's safety."
Professor Rubenstein is vying to be the main challenger to the Labor and Liberal status quo in the ACT's senate representation in a grouping with rival independent candidate David Pocock and Greens candidate Tjanara Goreng Goreng.
It is understood that Mr Pocock will soon announce his running mate.
