Having suffered a sickening facial injury at training, the last thing Canberra Raiders co-captain Elliott Whitehead would have wanted to do was sit on the side of the road in the rain waiting for an ambulance.

But that's exactly what the big-hearted Englishman did - coming to the aid of an injured cyclist.
Whitehead performed first aid, called an ambulance then offered to wait around until the injured cyclist's wife arrived to make sure his bike wasn't stolen.
That's after spending the day in emergency after suffering a nasty head clash with teammate Ata Mariota at training on Tuesday.
It left him needing plastic surgery to a bad gash on his lip and dental work on two teeth, which he underwent on Wednesday.
And in between? He stopped to assist the aforementioned injured cyclist after returning to Raiders HQ to get his car.
Whitehead called an ambulance and also called Raiders assistant club doctor Jack Cookson to come and help.
John Schram took to Twitter to alert the Raiders of their co-captain's act of kindness after he'd endured a tough day himself.
"This evening I was bleeding on the side of the road in the rain," he tweeted.
"Elliott Whitehead called an ambulance, helped me stop the bleeding and waited with me until help arrived. Thanks Elliott for being a champion on and off the field."
MORE RAIDERS NEWS
While Whitehead will no doubt be desperate to play the Penrith Panthers at Penrith on Sunday, he's now in doubt with Hudson Young to come straight into the second row if Whitehead's unable to play.
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was set to make that decision in the coming days as Whitehead continued his recovery from surgery.
It adds to the Green Machine's injury woes with Josh Hodgson (knee), Jamal Fogarty (knee), Harley Smith-Shields (knee) and Sebastian Kris (concussion) already sidelined.
"It was bad," Stuart said.
"It's very unfortunate for Elliott and come at a very bad time for the club with all the injuries we've got at the moment, and we've got some players carrying some injuries, but it's the reality and we've just got to keep moving forward."
