Auction results: 9 Brodribb Street, Wanniassa sold for $1.63 million, setting a new Canberra suburb record

Four bidders registered for the auction of 9 Brodribb Street, a 1980s-built brick house situated on a 765-square-metre block.

The final bid came in at $1.63 million, beating the previous suburb record by $40,000. The median house price in Wanniassa, located in the Tuggeranong district, is $850,000.

Originally a builder's own home, the property features four bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and dining area and a large alfresco entertaining space at the rear.

Sitting amongst the manicured gardens is an outdoor, infrared sauna that can be accessed from the main bedroom.

A large rumpus room takes up the ground floor space and is complete with a fully cabled IT server room, which allowed the sellers to run their business from home.

Selling agent Brian McPherson of LJ Hooker Woden and Weston Creek said the new owners were drawn in by the size of the property.

"They've got family overseas and they're hoping that eventually they'll be able to bring some of their relations over here and the house is big enough to accommodate that. So that was one of the nice things about the result," he said.

Mr McPherson said the sellers, who are relocating interstate, were equally pleased with the result.

"The sellers are really excited that it hit a new [price] level for Wanniassa," he said.

"They worked hard on the property for quite a few years just renovating the place for their own enjoyment, but in the end the presentation was just first-class."

According to CoreLogic records, the property last changed hands in 2008 for $665,000.
