A car surfer has been captured on video standing atop a vehicle on a busy road.

The dangerous act in the western Sydney suburb of Fairfield was filmed by another motorist who could only watch as it unfolded.
In the video, the man, who wears a bright yellow hat, crouches on the roof of the SUV, appearing to wait for the car to pick up pace before he stands in a surfer-like stance for about 15 seconds, dancing and gesturing in heavy traffic.

As the car starts to slow down with the traffic, the man lowers back down and takes a seat on the roof.
In a statement NSW Police confirmed Fairfield Highway Patrol officers were aware of the video and inquiries into the incident were being conducted.
