An urgent recall has been issued for certain Jaguar Land Rover Australia cars due to a defect that could lead to an engine fire.

There are 81 vehicles affected by the recall, issued by the Department of Infrastructure.
The models are Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Defender with a year range between 2017 and 2023.
"Due to a manufacturing defect, under certain conditions the engine may rapidly overheat and subsequently rupture the engine mounted plastic elbow in the cooling system," the recall notice said.
"This could cause a coolant leak and may result in an engine compartment fire."

Drivers may be alerted to the engine overheating by the engine temperature warning light.
According to the recall notice, affected owners will be notified and told to take their car to an approved repairer for works, to be carried out free of charge.
