Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he would use the next meeting of national cabinet to campaign for a federal public holiday should the Matilda's make it to the final.
"If we're still going and if the Matildas can pull off a win in the World Cup, then that would be extraordinary," he said last week.
"I reckon the states and territory leaders will be under enormous pressure to show that they understand how significant this achievement is."
NSW Premier Chris Minns said his government would "back the Matildas with a public holiday" in the event of a finals win.
"We'll work with the other states in the Commonwealth to get the right date. It's going to be raised at national cabinet next week, in the meantime, we'll get behind the Matildas for the next two games," he told 2GB radio on Tuesday.
After Monday night's 2-0 win over Denmark, the Matildas are poised to confidently embark on their quarterfinals game against France or Morocco.
Goals to Caitlin Foord and Hayley Raso guaranteed the team's win in front of 75,784 raucous fans at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
Australian soccer legend Craig Foster threw his weight behind the proposed public holiday in a tweet.
"But it's a long, long way off yet, the 3 hardest matches are ahead. It's incredibly tough. But so is this team. Let's all dream. But one game at a time.." he wrote.
State premiers are responsible for declaring public holidays.
The grand final will take place on Sunday August 20.
