Young missing hiker found after widespread search

Search and rescue efforts tracked down the missing man as emergency services combed through the Grampians National Park.

Ballarat woman Katrina Baulch said her son Jack drove almost two hours to the scenic Victorian town of Halls Gap planning to walk the Pinnacle Point track on January 3.

Ms Baulch said the 20-year-old video-called his family from the top of Pinnacle Point at 7.15pm but could not be contacted afterwards.

Calls to his phone went to voicemail and his car was found on Halls Gap main street where he is believed to have parked before setting off.

Parks Victoria said Pinnacle Point is 4.2 kilometre hike estimated to take 90 minutes to two hours to complete a return trip.

Weather in the national park was overcast with a top of 27 degrees and low of 12 degrees overnight on January 3 and similar conditions are forecast on January 4.

His family held serious concerns for his welfare as Mr Baulch was not dressed for adverse weather conditions, wearing blue shorts and a black, grey and white t-shirt with running shoes, police said.
