He is survived by his wife Judy, sons Dean, Brett, Richard, and daughter Sophie.
Gosper competed for Australia in the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne where he won the silver medal in the 4 x100m relay with teammates Graham Gipson, Leon Gregory and David Lean.
He would go on to captain the men's athletics team in the Rome Olympics in 1960.
He won a gold medal in the 100 m and a bronze medal in the 4 x100m relay at the 1954 Commonwealth Games in Vancouver as well as a bronze in the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 in the 4 x 100m relay.
Following the Olympics Gosper worked in sports administration becoming the inaugural chairman of the Australian Institute of Sport (1980-85); Australian Olympic Federation president (1985-1990) and Vice-President of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Organising Committee (1993-2000).

Gosper was a member of the executive team that won the Sydney 2000 Games bid in Sydney.
But he was not without controversy.
In May 2000, Gosper was criticised after his daughter Sophie was made the first Australian torchbearer in a late change over the previously selected Greek-Australian Yianna Souleles.
Gosper apologised days later due to public outrage, although he insisted he was not involved in the decision.
